Door 120 hackers wordt tijdens dat weekend de oorspronkelijke betekenis van het woord hacker in ere hersteld: knutselen aan hardware, schrijven van software en nadenken over de implicaties van moderne techniek; welke grotendeels door hackers van een vorige generatie is ontwikkeld.<br /> <br /> <br /> &quot;Sinds de laatste publicaties van Wikileaks lijkt het Internet geteisterd te worden door hackers en cyber-terroristen. Het woord 'hacker' wordt nu dagelijks gebruikt als stempel voor malevolente activisten en criminelen. Dat klopt niet,&quot; zegt Jan Klopper, voorzitter van stichting eth0. &quot;Hackers zijn juist diegenen die 'out of the box' denken en creatieve oplossingen verzinnen, onder andere op het vlak van internet, veiligheid en privacy. Ze zijn bezig met toegepaste technologie. En juist deze 'hackers' zijn een onmisbare schakel voor het ontstaan en de ontwikkeling van het Internet&quot;.<br /> <br /> <br /> Voor eth0 is &quot;hacken&quot; het inzetten van hardware en software op nieuwe, onvoorziene manieren; het kennis nemen van de mogelijkheden en het realiseren van nieuwe toepassingen. Dat zorgt ervoor dat de techniek telkens een stap verder vooruit gaat. Recent is bijvoorbeeld de Kinect van Microsoft geïntroduceerd. Hackers hebben al binnen een week alternatieve toepassingen voor deze motion-capture hardware ontwikkeld en deze vrijgegeven. Ook de opkomst van zelfbouw 3D-printers en computergestuurde lasersnijders, frezen en andere &quot;maker-hardware&quot; maakt het steeds eenvoudiger en toegankelijker om eigen ontwerpen tot een tastbaar product te brengen. Dat is wat hacken zo belangrijk maakt. Iedereen kan mee doen met de ontwikkeling van de technologie om ons heen.<br /> <br /> <br /> Stichting eth0 nodigt alle geïnteresseerden uit voor een gezellig en productief weekend. Het eth0:2011 Winter event vindt plaats van 14 tot 16 januari in Buitengoed De Panoven te Zevenaar. Er is ruimte voor 120 bezoekers. Een toegangskaartje kost 42 euro, inclusief slaapplaats en maaltijden.
